The Socratic method is used where I am interning now. The students are in a
mixed group of 6-8th grade. There is only 9 per class. (guess who I am
right?). The teacher leads the class through discussion by posing questions
and when they answer she poses another question. This group loves the
method, although I don't think they know what it is they are doing. The
teacher is a good model for me with this method. She makes it look so easy.
But I must agree that it depends totally on the classroom dynamics. In my
opinion, you must be completely comfortable with it and know your students
for it to work. I like this method of learning.
