Next message: Teresa Schulze: "[Teacher-talkinquiry] Assessments"
Hi Letty and George,
I am very interested in your book. George in KY we use a 4point scoring
rubric for pretty much everything and I found that I successfully converted
this to grades by calling proficient a 95, apprentice(partially correct
and/or needed assistance to complete) an 80, novice a 65, and distinguished
a 100. This worked for me...but we also have had extensive training in
identifying these 4 levels. The scoring process is a holistic one with
specific rubric criteria developed in conjunction with the prompt for
student work.

George,
There's a book called Rubric, Assessment and Checklist
that you can use to give you daily grades. This is
also the most effective way to demonstrate portfolio
work. It focuses on modeling, rubrics,
group/individual work and many other items. I use it
all of the time. I will forward the ISBN as soon as I
get back to school.
Good Luck!
Letty
