    Hi George:

Some information is missing in your question.  Are you the only one on your staff interested in moving to inquiry teaching?  Do you have colleagues you can go to for  help in planning or are you on your own?  The transition time for most major pedgogical switches is 3-5 years to make a complete change over.  If you have others doing it too and have support it will happen faster.  I suggest you start by planning one major standard a quarter to teach by inquiry.  That will give you a good start into the process.  If you try to do too much, it will be discouraging and you'll loose your vigor for the change.  It is really exciting to hear that junior high is the place you want to do this.  Inquiry teaching for that age group in my opinion is the best way to engage their wandering attentions.  They can become invested in their own learning and really get excited about what they learn.  Let me hook you up with the junior high teacher thatacilitated my class. He does a lot of inquiry with his students and would be a great  mentor for you.  His name is Bret Loucks, bloucks@susd.org   I am sure he would be willing to offer some ideas.  You can tell him I gave you his name.  Good Luck, Patricia Faiveley, Scottsdale, AZ
