I don't know if any of you have tried this but I used satellite images to illustrate global pollution. There are some really neat photos at www.nasa.gov. Just go to the Visible Earth section and the pictures are categorized by topic and I think region. This is a great springboard/opening activity for a unit and a great way to build for transfer. My environment unit was a success due to these pictures!
