Greetings, Ms. Pierre.
Please use this Channel-talk feature of the course to ask questions,
contribute ideas related to the topics presented, or to comment on the
content of an Individual Workshop.
For example, in Workshop #1, a question about "where does energy come from"
is offered for study. The video offers that most energy inevitably
originates from our sun: that big star in the sky. The video mentions two
exceptions regarding the origin of energy here on earth: the heat from the
core of the earth and nuclear energy.
For many years, we were taught that all of the energy needed to sustain life
forms on this planet, inevitably depended upon the sun for energy. However,
about 25 years ago, scientists discovered that there are deep,
ocean-dwelling bacteria that consume sulfer compounds that are spewed from
very hot vents on the bottom of the ocean floor. These bacteria become the
beginning of a food chain for invertebrate and vertebrate deep ocean
dwellers. Thus, life can be supported without the need of the sun's energy.
Students could write a science-fiction piece about what life would depend on
to sustain itself on a distant planet.
Enjoy your workshop videos!

I watched both videos, but I have not written any assignments, I hope more
people will communicate. I only have one response so far.
"Learning is finding out what you already know, Doing is demonstrating that
you know it, Teaching is reminding others that they know it as well as you
do. We are all learners, doers, and teachers."
