Well-done! I can only hope to have that kind of success. I'm the Senior National Honor Society Advisor, so I've been thinking about involving them in this. We do a couple of school-wide fund-raising activities for charity but the staff does more of the coordination. I'd love to have the students spear-head the initiative themselves.

I also do a mandatory service component that I coordinate for the entire
middle school. We are a small private school so that is possible. I let the
students decide on the service project and this last year they tried to earn
enough funds to build a school house in Sierra Leone. Because they had to earn
the money (or it wouldn't be learning), they decide on the ways, dates,
activities, etc. I also have the student council participate. This year I'm going
to make it part of their character building class as a consultant to the
other teachers. We managed to feed 2 schools lunches for a year and to buy goats
for 12 families. We'll have to see what they come up with this year.
