- What are my institution's main rights and responsibilities under a distance learning course license?
An Annenberg Media distance learning course license provides higher education institutions with the right to use Annenberg Media series in distance learning courses under the following terms and conditions:
- Use of integrated course components to include video, textbooks, study guides, faculty guides, test-banks, and other components, including course-specific web sites and all related media, including, for example, DVDs, etc., where applicable;
- Duplication and retention of copies of the course video programs through the license term for use solely by faculty teaching, and students enrolled in, the course;
- Distribution and delivery of the programs on a non-commercial cable channel, non-commercial public television (PBS) station or in a closed-circuit environment;
- Digitization of course video tapes for retransmission on above channels;
- Exhibition of programs on playback, projection or other audiovisual display devices for use solely by faculty and students enrolled in the course;
- Video-streaming of course video programs and/or course video program excerpts or bookmarks for use in online-based course offerings provided that use is in conjunction with viewing of video programs/series in their entirety, and that course video programs are not edited, modified or altered in any fashion;
- Storage of digitized programs on the licensee's digital distribution system in a format that can be video-streamed only. Downloading is strictly prohibited;
- Provide access to streamed video via password protection to enrolled students and licensee faculty teaching the course;
- Institutions may direct enrolled students to the Video on Demand (VOD) resources on the Annenberg Media web site at http:/www.learner.org/resources as a source for viewing the course video programs. Distance learning license and/or student enrollment fees still apply;
- Institutions are authorized to offer a course in multiple sections during a single academic term.

- What is the cost of a distance learning course license?
The cost depends on the number of licenses being obtained and the length of time they will be in use. We offer per term, per year, and three year flat fee as well as incentive pricing. For complete details, please see our Distance Learning Course Pricing Plan.

- How will my institution get access to the course videos?
If your college has a copy of the course videos from a previous license, you can continue using those videos. Programs may be purchased on DVD, VHS, or in various broadcast formats. Note: DVD sets for all Annenberg Media series are available at a reasonable price for students enrolled in distance learning COURSES. For more details, call 1-800-LEARNER or email distancelearning@learner.org.

- How can we make the video programs available to distance learning students?
Videos purchased from Annenberg Media may be duplicated on tape or DVD (linear, autoplay recording only) for students taking the distance learning courses. All programs must retain the original production and funding credits; programs may not be annotated, chaptered or otherwise have the content altered.
Videos may be digitized in their entirety and streamed (but not downloaded) through a closed, password-protected local area network (LAN). All programs must retain the original production and funding credits; programs may not be annotated, chaptered, or otherwise have the content altered.
Colleges may also use local public television, cable access, and college cable channels to broadcast the programs to students; however, Annenberg Media will not make special arrangements for getting its programs to these rebroadcasters.

- How can we make closed captioned video/audio described programs available to students?
Currently, all Annenberg Media materials are closed captioned. Audio described versions are available (except Destinos, Nuevos Destinos, and French in Action) upon request in DVD and VHS formats.

- How do we get the most current versions of course textbooks, study guides, and faculty guides?
Texts and guides for your class or bookstore should be purchased through the publisher. Check the publisher's 800 number or Web site for information on your local sales representative and the most updated editions of texts and guides. To find the publisher for any course print, search www.learner.org for the series title and click on the link to "Buy Videos and Materials."
Single copies of textbooks, study guides, and faculty guides can be purchased through 1-800-LEARNER.

Yes, you can download our online textbooks and guides for the following series: Ethics in America II, Rediscovering Biology, The Habitable Planet, Mathematics Illuminated, Democracy in America. In addition, many courses have coordinated Web sites that may include interactive, timelines, and glossaries for enhanced learning.

- Will distance learning courses be updated and/or new series produced?
Annenberg Media continually evaluates the Collection to determine when programs and materials require revisions or updates. In addition to updating videos, we may also develop coordinated Web sites that extend topics covered in the video, and include interactive learning elements. All updates will be announced at www.learner.org. You may also sign up for our monthly updates at www.learner.org/mailman/listinfo/updates, and you will be notified automatically when series are updated, rights are extended, or new series become available for use as distance learning courses.

- How can public television (PTV) stations use these series?
Public television (PTV) stations working in partnership with local colleges and universities to offer these programs as courses may continue to broadcast or cablecast these series on behalf of their local institutions, as long as broadcast rights are current. PTV stations may broadcast Annenberg Media series at no charge for general audience programming for the duration of the broadcast rights period.
