Teaching Reading: K-2

Teaching Reading K-2

Library Overview Tape

Shari Frost with her students.

The overview video summarizes the content and the literacy issues of Teaching Reading K-2: A Library of Classroom Practices. Included in the overview are clips from the classroom and student case study videos, as well as reflections from teachers and the project's advisors.

The segments capture the range of literacy teaching practices shown in the collection. You will see many examples of read aloud, guided reading, shared reading, and independent reading. You'll see teachers developing oral language in their english language learners, assessing their students' progress, and guiding students to become independent writers. You will also see teachers developing their students' understanding of how the printed language works. The physical classrooms themselves are rich examples of how teachers can maximize their spaces for literacy learning.

Watch the overview to quickly familiarize yourself with the entire collection and to help you decide which videos you want to watch. You can also use the overview to:

  • Launch a study group using the video library
  • Inform parents and/or administrators about the library
