In recent years, more and more observers have reported seeing both types of birds. If one landed on your feeder, could you tell which type it was? Try this!

  • Look again at this ruby-throated hummingbird.
  • Write down all the colors and shapes you see — and where on the body you see them. (Scientists call these "field marks.")
  • Draw a picture of the rubythroat. This is the best way to make yourself look closely — and remember!
