What is happening?

Whales are mammals and breathe air. They come to the surface to inhale and to exhale. This mom and her baby are exhaling, or breathing out. Every exhale makes a spout — also called a blow. Big blow, little blow! The spout is made of water vapor, air, and water droplets. People who are very close to a whale spout say that whales have stinky breath!
