Annenberg Channel Licensee FAQ

The Annenberg Channel satellite feed -
Through September 30, 2008

  1. When will the satellite feed end?
  2. Midnight , ET, on Tuesday, September 30, 2008.

  3. When will the broadband Annenberg Channel viewer end?
  4. The broadband viewer will also end at midnight , ET, on Tuesday, September 30, 2008. New licenses will not be granted for the broadband viewer after June 1, 2008.

  5. Will the Annenberg Channel maintain its regular schedule until that date/time? Will we be able to switch the Channel through as usual?
  6. Yes, the Channel will maintain its regular 24-hour broadcast schedule through September 30, 2008. Beginning in July 2008, many series may be fed in sequence ("stripped") so that stations can record full series.

  7. When will the 2008 Annenberg Channel schedule be available?
  8. The searchable schedule by series will be online by December 1, 2007. The printable monthly schedule will be available by mid-December 2007. This schedule will cover January 1 to September 30, 2008.

  9. What if we have trouble recording programs from January through September 2008?
  10. The usual technical assistance for licensees will be available by phone, and there will be multiple opportunities to record programs with current broadcast rights. This technical assistance will cease as of September 30, 2008 along with the satellite feed.

  11. What can we do with the programs we have recorded from the satellite feed?
  12. Any entity that has a valid Annenberg Channel license may continue to broadcast and cablecast the programs in accordance with the original license up until the program's broadcast expiration date. You may continue to air programs with the Annenberg Channel interstitial material, if you wish. After the program's broadcast expiration date, you no longer have rights to broadcast or cablecast it. You should check the list of program expiration dates.

    Persons or agencies who have recorded the program from the satellite feed may keep and use (e.g., show in the classroom or in a professional development session) the programs for the life of the tape(s).

  13. How long will certificates of participation for use toward professional development credit be offered?
  14. Groups of educators can register to receive certificates of participation until March 31, 2008. For those who have registered, certificates of participation will be issued through June 30, 2008. No certificates will be provided for those who register as individuals. After June 30, 2008, no certificates will be provided for group members. For information on registering and receiving certificates go to registration.

Post Satellite feed -
After September 30, 2008

  1. What else will change after September 30, 2008, in addition to the satellite feed being discontinued?
  2. After September 30, 2008, there will no longer be staff in place to answer technical questions, take workshop or course registrations, provide certificates of participation, or provide information about running professional development workshops or courses. Information on some of these topics will be available at online.

  3. Will graduate credit be available for Annenberg Media series beyond the Channel end date?
  4. Colorado State University and Southern Oregon University will continue to offer graduate credit after September 30, 2008 to teachers completing the course requirements. To learn about graduate credit, how to register and what the requirements are, go to graduate credit.

  5. Where can we send viewers for access to the programs after the September 30, 2008?
  6. You can send viewers to www.learner.org to view any program via broadband stream now or after September 30, 2008. As a Channel licensee, you will maintain rights after September 30, 2008 to broadcast or cablecast programs that you have recorded up until their expiration date. See the list for program expiration dates.

  7. Can we rebroadcast programs we have already recorded from the satellite feed? For how long?
  8. Yes. See question 6 above.

  9. Can we broadcast or cablecast NEW programs from Annenberg Media after September 30, 2008? How do we acquire programs?
  10. Yes, you will be able to broadcast or cablecast new programs released after September 30, 2008. You can acquire the programs by purchasing a set of DVDs or broadcast masters through Annenberg Media at 800-LEARNER. You can also purchase programs that you may have missed from the Annenberg Channel satellite feed.

  11. Will telecourse rights continue to be available?
  12. Yes. Colleges and universities can license many of the series for use as e-learning/telecourses. For the list of available courses and the procedure for licensing, visit this page or call 1-800-LEARNER.
