The Principles: Equity, Curriculum, Teaching, Learning, Assessment, and
Technology enable teachers to make decisions about providing high-quality
mathematics education. The standards state specifically what students
should be expected to understand in the various branches of mathematics at
benchmark grade bands.

Together, they are intended to provide a high quality mathematics education
program and move us decisively toward higher achievement for all students.
In addition, they support us in becoming more professional in the standards
we hold for ourselves. As we raise the expectations for our students, so
must we raise the expectations we hold for ourselves.
