Identifying Reading Strategies

In this activity, annotate a primary source using three historical reading strategies: sourcing, contextualizing, and close reading.

This interactive activity is one of 10 featured in Reading and Writing in the Disciplines. It focuses on annotation as a strategy for doing a close reading of a historical text. To learn more about close reading and explore another interactive activity about it, go to Close Reading in Unit 3. To see how strategies for close reading are used within other disciplines, explore Close Reading Strategies in English Unit 6 and 3 Read Strategy in Mathematics Unit 6.
