Tuning the GI DSR-4200 and 4200C IRD Models

Welcome to the Annenberg Channel! We distribute programming Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 am - 10:00 pm, ET, on SES Americom's AMC-3 (GE-3) K23 (H) located at 87 degrees WL. The feed is Digicipher II, using "Virtual Channel Map" #15 and channel 514.

If you have not contacted the Channel to authorize your DSR, do so now. Call 1-800-228-8030, Extension 2, with the serial number and the unit address number. You will be notified when the process is complete. If you have a DSR 4200 or 4200C, proceed as follows. Separate instructions are available to tune in a DSR-4200V. If you have other models, contact us.

  1. Connect the antenna LNB (Low Noise Block) downconverter to the "H" input on the back panel.

  2. Make any additional Audio/Video/TV connections, then plug in the AC cord.

  3. Using the Chaparral receiver (or other antenna controller), move to satellite GE3 and optimize reception. Ensure the antenna feed polarity is in the "horizontal" downlink.

NOTE: In the menus, the arrow or number keys can be used to select choices. The remote control "Select" button is used to make changes for all selctions as noted.

  4. An IRD "Factory Defaults Reset" must be performed first, as follows:

    • Press "Options." This will display the Options menu.
    • Press "3" to "Customize Program Viewing"
    • Press "4" to "Change Password"
    • Enter password and press the "Time" button on the remote. The "Installation Menu" will be displayed.
    • Arrow down to "Factory Defaults Reset" and highlight it.
    • Press the "time" button on the remote. Do NOT press "Select" for this one function. The IRD will go dark, reset and will be operational when channel 100 is displayed.

  5. Press "Options" then "3" and then "4" on the remote. This will display the "Installation Menu" again.

    • Press "2" for "Setup." This will display the choices.
    • Verify the following, or select if not set:

      • Homing = Off
      • Video Format = NTSC
      • LNB Selection = DPLNB

    • Press "Go Back" to return to the "Installation Menu."

  6. Press "3" for "Manual Tune." Check that the default "Frequency Specification" is 1010.000. If not, repeat the "Factor Defaults Reset" procedure again.

Set the following values using the remote keypad to "navigate" and enter numeric values:

    • Polarity: Select "Horizontal" (H)
    • Frequency Specification: Enter 1400.750
    • Transport Stream ID: Verify that 0-0 and "Disable" have a dot.
    • Arrow down, highlight "Tune" and press "Select".

NOTE: Signal strength should be observed on the "bar" graph. An IRD "signal" light should display after a few moments. Allow 90 seconds after "signal" acquisition for the channel map to load.
